One of our success stories comes from our work in Merikit, Uganda, which is in the Tororo parish in eastern Africa, where close to 80% of the population lives in rural areas with more than half not having even basic drinking water services, and where 6% practice open defecation due to lack of sanitation services. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to implement a water project that started in 2019 and has only continued to grow. Our project continues to transform the community of Tororo. Thanks to increased access to clean water, WASH-related disease dropped from 40% to 5% and the mortality rate of children under 5 decreased. The population of Merikit increased by 10% and has uplifted the community from a trading center to a municipality. Your continued support will help us replicate this success in other communities around the world.
At the moment, we have an urgent need to start a new project in Tororo that will bring even more schools and health centers WASH training and education and will help support the costs of bringing water to this underserved community, not to mention providing economic empowerment to the women and girls in this community through our Keep a Girl in School Menstrual Hygiene Management and Microenterprise training. We’ve set a goal of $50,000 and we need your help!
